In the state of Connecticut, it is illegal to have a pool or hot tub without a pool code compliant fence. Chapter 4 section 421.0 of the Connecticut State Building Code states that, “An outdoor private swimming pool, including an in-ground, above-ground or on-ground pool, hot tub or spa shall be provided with a barrier”, and it goes on to state the requirements for which the barrier, or fence, would need to meet. It is important to check with your local building department for specific codes in your town.
